Firefly is the story of 10-year-old Tonton (Euwenn Mikaell) and his mother Elay (Alessandra de Rossi) who live a humble but happy life together. To encourage the often-bullied Tonton, Elay tells him a story of bravery: the tale of the firefly who defeated the island beast with its light. Legend has it that one can make a wish upon seeing the light of a thousand fireflies in this magical island. Tonton sets out on a journey to find the mythical island and wish for courage. A fairytale adventure for all ages, Firefly is a coming-of-age drama that explores a child’s eventual discovery that love makes you brave.
The film also stars Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Epy Quizon, Yayo Aguila and Cherry Pie Picache. Firefly features the special participation of Dingdong Dantes who plays Tonton’s older self, an author who unravels the story of his childhood before receiving the National Children’s Book Prize.
