Under the eyes of a moody cashier, the women in a supermarket queue soothe a crying baby by singing a nursery rhyme in their native languages. The compassion lifts everybody’s spirits.
Director Biography – Sophia Tamaro
Sophia Tamaro is a German/Italian writer and director. Scripts she has written have placed in the ScreenCraft Short Screenplay Competition, the New Orleans Film Festival and the Austin Film Festival. During Berlinale 2024, Sophia presented a black comedy “The First Orgasm” as part of the Pitch_It programme. It will be her feature debut.
Film Director’s Statement about the Film
I was inspired to write “Lichtblick” after being on the receiving end of an unexpected act of kindness from a stranger. It reminded me that every single one of us has the power to make someone else’s day better, that we should acknowledge those moments and act on them more frequently.
Our cast includes six women from different countries, of different ages, heritages and experiences. I wanted to show that even though we may speak different languages, the kindness we show each other is universal.
We live in a world which increasingly isolates us, we disappear into a virtual bubble instead of interacting with other people.
With this film, I want to encourage us to look up from our phones, to put them away and to be open to real life experiences, no matter how small they may seem.
