KINEKO International Film Festival is celebrating its 31st edition. We are very pleased that this major children’s international film festival in Asia, which has provided children with cross cultural experiences through films, has become a staple event in Futakotamagawa, one of the cultural hubs of Setagaya City.
The screening program, which parents and children can enjoy together, has become even richer, featuring a special section on Quebec films realized with the cooperation of the Quebec government in Canada, among other diverse films from around the world.
This year, we are inviting teenagers from overseas to share the experience of watching films with Japanese children, facilitating international exchange.
Additionally, we have established a new documentary section that focuses on the environment surrounding children from various countries. Films transcend generations, cultures, and languages, making it possible to learn about the world together. By experiencing the emotions of the protagonists through films, we believe that children will develop sensitivity and empathy by feeling joy and sadness. In a world where conflicts still persist, the role of KINEKO Film Festival in creating opportunities to foster respect and kindness towards others has become even more important.
As Setagaya City promotes itself as a “Child-Friendly and Parenting SupportCity,” we warmly invite you to attend KINEKO Film Festival, of which we are very proud. We look forward to spending five vibrant days in Futakotamagawa, immersed in the world of films with everyone.
On behalf of the Tokyu Group, I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunity tohold the 31st KINEKO International Film Festival, where children can experience diverse films from around the world up close. KINEKO International Film Festival aims to become a film festival rooted in the town of Futakotamagawa, where urban and natural environments harmonize, in collaboration with Setagaya City. This year, we have enriched the festival with a variety of events, including film screenings combined with music live events, food festivals, and interactive workshops, all set in open spaces such as parks, plazas and riverbanks.
These events will enhance the film experience with music and food. Films greatly stimulate children’s curiosity and play a crucial role in their development and education. We hope that by experiencing films along with live performances, food education, and physical activities, children will have the opportunity to enhance their imagination and creativity.
Please enjoy the autumn season in Futakotamagawa. With the substantial support of the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Children and Families Agency, the KINEKO International Film Festival has been realized again this year.
We will continue to work together to build the culture and future of Setagaya as a united community. We hope that Kineko, based in Futakotamagawa, will become an international film festival that Japan can be proud of, showcasing children’s films from both domestic and international sources.
